In the dark days of the pandemic I began to paint local businesses that stood against the storm.
This is of a favorite junk shop over near the park.
It is an oil painting. This year I will hang oil and ink paintings together on the same walls
oil on panel 17x26 cm. framed
Birds flew freely this pandemic. I envied them. This is an imagined bird’s view of a famous local street and stair.
There are more sky views in the exhibition.
ink and color on washi, 30x14 cm. made into a scroll
Scrolls are a convenient way to store and view an ink painting, but they may be cut to size and framed if you prefer.
Ueno Park has beautiful cherry trees. This is a favorite, behind the Starbucks, beside the children’s park.
Ueno Park was constructed on the ashes of the Kanaiji temple, you can still see its stones and bones.
Oil on panel, 20x22 cm. framed
The marks on the bottom of the Buddha’s feet were said to be made by the teas of a woman. You can find carvings and mosaics of his feet along the silk road and over Asia.
Mine are not the feet of the Buddha. They are lines I paint inside. There are also paintings inside gourds this exhibition.
ink and color on washi 30x18 unframed
This is a suspicious dragon.
Students and dragons must always suspect something more.
ink on washi 87x69 cm. unframed
My favorite sound is a child’s laugh.
ink and color on washi, 15x14 cm. unframed
There are 17 paintings in the exhibition.
The paintings will be on the studio wall the last two weekends in October..
If you have a chance, please drop by.
You can almost see inside the little shop using the community space this week. Certainty you can see the shop keeper in front and the old guy taking a rest on the bench
Are these fish happy?
As Andrew, my Chinese born student of English used to repeat. “Hard to say.”
Before the virus the streets of Ameyoko looked like this, some days they still do.
Who doesn’t wish to climb this mountain?
We have a mighty lot of temples in this part of town. It helps us save Chieko’s sky
This is called the Wave Mandala, but it seems to be more about people.
Where do you dream of living? I dream of the house on the left
Can you see the outer palace gardens on the far away left?
But perhaps I only see them in my head
The Sumida river, painted so many times in Ukiyoe. it was the center of downtown life. It is still great fun to walk beside, or ride the ferry to Asakusa or to view from the top of the Asahi building
